Founded in 1990, the Vancouver Lesbian and Gay Choir is
a performing group. We are an inclusive, non-auditioned choir and welcome
members of all orientations and levels of ability. We are a registered
non-profit organization.
Our Mission Statement reads:
We are men and women who enjoy singing together. Committed to high
musical standards, we celebrate our lives and sense of community. We
believe our visibility strengthens all of us and fosters understanding
among people.
2007/2008 Season
Rehearsals for the current season will began in September. We perform
two major concerts each season as well as several Outreach performances
both within and outside of the Greater Vancouver area. See our News
section for details about what we've been up to.

About our Director
A lifelong relationship with music beginning with childhood piano
lessons has led to a varied career for Nicola Hamilton. After
earning a certificate in voice and piano from Capilano College,
she worked as a piano teacher and accompanist before taking the
helm of the Vancouver Lesbian and Gay Choir in 2003. In the years
since, the choir has acquired renewed confidence, a fuller sound
and more members, and has expanded its community outreach concerts
to an ever-widening and enthusiastic audience.
Nicola's approach to conducting focuses on ensuring that choir
members can enjoy singing together and being together. Singers value
the feeling of welcoming and community, and find that Nicola's laid-back
leadership style, patience and sense of humor contribute to making
every rehearsal a positive experience. Audience members appreciate
performances because they can tell that the choir is having a good
time making music within an atmosphere of inclusivity, safety and
fun.
In addition to her work with VLGC, Nicola has served as founding
Director of what is now the Lumina Coast Chorus, led a season of
music at Beacon Unitarian Church, and served on the Board of Directors
for the 2006 Canadian Unison Festival. She is constantly seeking
new challenges and opportunities to grow as a musician, and has
recently been appointed as the Director of A Vancouver Women's Chorus.
As we head into our latest season of music, Nicola continues to
bring her passion for choral music and her inspiring leadership
style to the podium.

About our Accompanist
Dan Lauterbach has lent his skill and talent at the piano
to the choir almost continually since its inception in 1990.
A native of Edson, Alberta, Dan traces his musical roots through
his strong family and the Mennonite choral traditions in which he
was raised.
He begain a lifelong journey, which has brought him to Vancouver
and made him a mainstay of the city's Lesbian and Gay choral scene.
In addition to Dan's role with the Vancouver Lesbian and Gay choir,
Dan sings with the Vancouver Men's Chorus.
He makes himself completely indispensable to the musical community
by accompanying another group as well: A Vancouver Women's Chorus.

Our Focus
In a word, "Outreach." Some of our finest achievements
over the past few seasons have been our outreach concerts. We believe
that these outreach concerts are of the utmost importance.
Outreach concerts are very important because some smaller communities
may not have otherwise had the chance to truly celebrate their own diversity.
We have had the opportunity to visit some great places and sing. For
example: Courtenay/Comox, Gibsons, Kamloops, Kelowna, and Sechelt, to
name just a few.
Our Outreach concerts have allowed us to go into these vibrant and somewhat
remote communities to perform.
One of our most recent and by far the largest oureach concert we participated
in was the GALA Chorus' Festival in Seattle, Washington in May of 2002.
Members of our choir were instrumental in organizing the Canadian Unison
Festival 2006, held in Vancouver May 19-22, 2006. The festival was attended
by over 500 delegates from across Canada, and was a massive success.
